This rather rare boxing broadside (paper) measures approximately 12 1/2" x 9 1/4" and features the Akron, Ohio lightweight contender front and center! The offered Black Americana poster (blue and red text/photo) is completely original and authentic (not a reproduction), dating to the mid-1920's or early 1930's; Harris' boxing career spanned the years 1926-31. The poster features a catchy "Sensational Sammy Harris" banner headline at the top, and mentions the boxer was 19 years old. <>Also says "This Brownskin Boy Always Repeats As He Is CLEAN, CLASSY, COLORFUL. Insure your next card by using this boy". Harris was under the management of Harry Auber (aka Harry "Ping" Auber). The opponents Harris had beaten are listed on the broadside; they include Al Rowe, Homer Ronan, Ray Collins, Jack Herandex, Jimmy Davis, Frankie Stellmack, Leonard Cook, Tough Phillips, Little Jeff, Steve O'Malley, Jimmy Reed, Sammy Lupica, Ray Newton, Eddie Anderson, Toney Brown, Babe Picato, Eddie Ruttman, Chet Smallwood, Louis De'Arco, Toney Leone, Billy Inman and Joe Genett. Outstanding piece of vintage boxing memorabilia! <>Condition: there are fold lines and creases, along with one small edge tear. The paper has toned with age.
