His unusual melody, based on the folk music of the Moravian regions, especially Slovacko and Lassko, became appreciated. He made a name for himself worldwide with operas, including the most performed Jeji Pastorkyne or Her Stepdaughter, performed as Jenufa. The orchestral-vocal works Glagolitic Mass, Sinfonietta, Taras Bulba's Rhapsody and chamber compositions, especially string quartets, have also received world recognition (Wiki). Janacek's Musical Lassko is a music festival that started in September 1948 in Frydek-Mistek and the last year was held in June 1997.The music festival was founded on the initiative of Jaroslav Prochazka, a native of Mistek, in 1948, 20 years after the composer's death. In the program of the 1st year, held in Frydek-Mistek from September 16 to 19, Jeji Pastorkyne was performed by the ensemble of the Opava Opera with four guest members of the Prague National Theatre.In 1951, the organization of the Janacek music festivals was diverse and spread over a large time interval from May to December. In subsequent years, the festival's program conception mainly included Janacek's anniversaries - from 1953 (25 years since the composer's death) and 1954 (the 100th anniversary of his birth) to 1974, 1978 and 1979 - the main content of the festivals was the composer's operatic, orchestral, and chamber works and choral.After the District Cultural Center was abolished in the early 1990s, the Beskydy Frydek-Mistek Museum took over the organization of the next editions of Janacek's Musical Lasska. The festival was limited to the meeting of folklore ensembles, while the last program entitled "In praise of my native region, my Lassko" held on June 8, 1997 ended the 50-year tradition of these musical festivities. However, the Janacek tradition lived on in the composer's birthplace even at this time in the form of a new type of festival called Janacek's Hukvaldy – an international music festival that was established here in 1994 (Cesky Hudebni Slovnik).
