Description: FYI - "zipsdm" are watermarks to protect the photo from digital piracy and not printed onto the actual photograph This is an unusual photograph for many aspects. The first is having a picture of a woman playing an instrument. This would not be acceptable in many ideals of a woman's role but here is some evidence that this was not always true. The date can be determined because the US flag in the background is the 1890 43-star US flag with the additions of North Dakota, South Dakota, Washington, Montana and Idaho. It was only used for about one year. The two women could possibly be celebrating this but, unsure where this photo was taken or why they appear to be having so much fun. The shutter speeds of cameras from this era simply were not great a capturing motion so why there is a blur but, in this instance, the blur was mild and enhanced the "action" of one women dancing while the other played the banjo. Not many photos from this era capture this close range movements without being completely blurred. Plus, it's just fun and quite patriotic. It captures enjoyment and happiness. It's a refreshing picture when most photos from this era are portraits of people with stoic faces. Condition is good for its age. There are some light creases and you may notice fingerprints; these are from the original photographer when they were developing the photo - can't be removed. You can kinda say this is a "signed" photo with the artist "unique" mark! Unfortunately, I don't know the name behind that mark. This is approx. a 3-1/4" x 4-1/4" photo.
