Description: This EXTREMELY RARE exquisite 8.5” cabinet plate from William Geurin & Co. Limoges, France is a must-have for any antique classical music collector! It features a stunning hand painted bust portrait of famous Ludwig Van Beethoven surrounded in a white background, accompanied by a cobalt blue with hand painted gold scrolled edge. This stunning plate is definitely one of Wm Geurin’s finest portrait works I’ve seen. The vibrant, dimensional colors used to paint Beethoven make this piece pop with luxury! I don’t see a signature for the portrait, but it looks very similar to artist, Joseph Karl Stieler’s work. Limoges has made numerous beautiful portrait cabinet plates, but none of them expressing Beethoven in this style has been found. I contacted an antique specialist that said this plate could have been a custom piece made and ordered for someone back in the early 1900’s. Possibly a famous person, artist, or collector of Beethoven history? Acquired near the Chicago area, it definitely could have been made for someone living in that area in the early 1900’s. Measuring about 8 1/2 inches diameter with a height of one inch. In excellent condition, with one tiny nick to the edge and a production flaw or indent on the backside. There is also a few specs of gold paint on the cobalt blue lower left hand side. I’ve included close up pictures for you to see. This exquisite piece of history would make an excellent gift for any classical music lover! Even the person that has everything wouldn’t have a stunning plate like this. It could be hung on the wall or displayed with a plate stand amongst other classical musicians. It honestly looks like it should be displayed in the Chicago Museum of Art as it’s definitely museum quality work! Don’t let this amazing piece of history pass you by! The plate will be packed with extreme care to insure safe arrival!
