It’s a gem. Nearly a decade of adventures, outdoor rambles, and fond memories are held from Lake Tahoe, CA, and the surrounding region. More than several backpacking treks originated from the base of Horseshoe Falls, whose waters are fed by a plethora of smaller, upper elevation alpine lakes, including Lake Aloha; and that feeds the immense blue alpine water body of Lake Tahoe. The disjointed trail is particularly well remembered by its steeply inclined ascent, that frequently requires ‘boulder hopping,’ up and down granodiorite (granite) boulders, and listening for uphill granite scree slides triggered by fellow comrades and canines. ‘Tahoe Falls’ portrays an alpine mountain setting centered about a steeply inclined waterfall, whose cascading, turbulent flows eventually meet, and subsequently dissipate into, the subdued but serene waters of a large, alpine lake. ‘Tahoe Falls’ conceptualization originated from a uniquely defined cavity spanning the interior length of the host Siberian Elm (Missouri). From the top – down, illustrates a narrow conduit that gradually widens as it extends downwards, until a sudden, rapid dimensional expansion, that then geometrically resembles a small-scaled alpine lake. Bearing exceptional intrinsic character, this setting developed while immaculately detailing the Siberian elm cavity. Inset fluorite was place at the top of the waterfall, depicting where the upstream water body narrows and large boulder-sized material accumulates directly preceding the falls. From thereafter, the shallow, lightly hued blue resin art was designed to portray fast, turbulent, uni-directional flow down the falls, until dissipating into the notably darker blue depths of the alpine lake. Ethiopian opal was selectively placed, predominantly along the waterfall perimeter. The exact opal placements, sizes, angles and colors were set with a particular meticulousness throughout this artwork: only one to two stones were placed per hour. Opals symbolize both boulders along the ascending/descending trail on either side of the waterfall, and cairn trail markers (a stacked placement of stones to convey trail location along sections that are difficult to otherwise mark and identify). ‘Tahoe Falls’ potentially portrays the most dynamic depth of any artwork crafted to date, due to an abundant number of methodically applied, complex resin layering techniques. No longer than a brief glance at ‘Tahoe Falls’ is required to discern the evidently isolated spatial confines of each colored resin. However, a more extensive viewing of the artwork (photos alone may be insufficient) reveals an evidently much more complicated process. Extensive planning was required to successfully isolate discretely confined, zonal divisions of color, that impeded resin flow or mixing, while each colored zonal division was simultaneously in a liquid state. Even such, at the top of the waterfall where the fluorite is inset, lies an elevated point along the surface so shallow it cannot be observed, yet required the continuous ‘recycling of light blue resin,’ from and then re-allocated to its correct color zone: drop by drop, second by second, from the beginning of one afternoon to the beginning of the next. Resultant however, is an utterly fabulous display of depth, combined from its vast depth of spatial depth variance; textural variance; and isolated zones of colored-contrastive depth variance. ‘Tahoe Falls.’ ‘Tahoe Falls’ was crafted for, and displays best as wall art. Professionally installed wall mounting is strongly recommended. Single-beam mounting support should be adequately sufficient, provided the artwork (vertical-centerline) is properly aligned to the interior beam’s vertical-centerline.
