Provenance: author’s presentation inscription to front blank “Uncle & Aunt Andrew / with Compliments of / their friend / The Author’. First edition presented to the author’s aunt and uncle: the work was apparently re-issued in 1880 (still ‘privately printed’) and then finally made generally available by Scribners in 1884.
