Description: Sambucus canadensis Blonde EnvyYellow American Elderberry Up for bid is a starter plant of the beautiful Sambucus canadensis Blonde Envy. This new form has bright yellow foliage (the brighter the sun, the brighter yellow the foliage), but while these colored foliage forms are very cold hardy and do very well in zones 4 to 6, they struggle in the heat and humidity of the south, but not this one. This variety was discovered here in South Carolina, and while it has proven to still do very well up north, they also thrive here in our heat and humidity here in the south. These plants produce nice glossy yellow leaves, and in spring they produce clusters of white flowers, which develop into the purple berries. We grow these as well as another local form with the typical green foliage, and they cross pollinate each other very well to form great crops of the berries. Typically these plants can reach heights of around 6 to 12 feet, but they can easily be kept smaller. They are typically hardy to USDA zone 4, possibly colder, but do well in the heat and humidity of the south as well. These plants will make a great statement in your garden. You are buying one 4 to 6 inch plant of Sambucus canadensis Blonde Envy.
