Description: The picture on this original postcard shows a close-up of the U.S. Life-Saving station in Sheboygan, Wisconsin as it looked between1907-1915 when the card was printed. Boats can be seen in the building’s open doors, with trees framing the composition of the picture of this historical place. In 1874 Congress established the U.S. Life-Saving Service (later the U. S. Coast Guard) to help vessels in distress or during storms. The Life-saving station began operating in Sheboygan in 1876. In 1890, the station was moved to the north side of the river, near the current U.S. Coast Guard building. This original postcard was published by E. A. Bishop of Racine, Wisconsin #A7417. This card will ship USPS standard first class, sleeved and in a stiff cardboard mailer.
