SIGNED first edition FRANK KUENSTLER PARADISE NEWS 1966 Eventorium Press 9 X 10

Description: SIGNED COPY OF FRANK KUENSTLER PARADISE NEWS 1966 Eventorium Press - POETRY AND ART Published by Eventorium Press 1966. Softcover, A book of poems and drawings by this poet and filmmaker. The poet's fourth collection. Unpaginated (about 128 pages). LARGER FORMAT THAN SOME OF HIS OTHER BOOKS, MEASURES APPROXIMATELY 9" X 10" Frank Kuenstler (1928–1996) was a New York poet and filmmaker. His work appeared in The Nation, the Village Voice, Film Culture, and in such anthologies as Mixed Voices and America: A Prophecy. Lens first appeared in Film Culture No. 33 (Summer 1964). He taught at the School of Visual Arts, edited Bread and Airplane, and was one of the animating spirits of Eventorium, an arts collective on Manhattan’s upper west side.He is part of the same generation as John Ashbery, Robert Bly, Robert Creeley, Philip Lamantia, Denise Levertov, Frank O’Hara, and Adrienne Rich, and, to my mind, belongs in their company. Between 1964 and 1996 he published nine books. During the mid-1960s, around the time that Donald Allen’s groundbreaking anthology, The New American Poetry: 1945–1965, began shifting the terms, and poetry scenes of all kinds were quickly developing on Manhattan’s Lower East Side, Harlem and in the West Village, Kuenstler was a member of the Eventorium group, which met regularly on the Upper West Side. The other Eventorium members included Serge Gavronsky, Rachel Blau (later, Blau du Plessis), Michael O’Brien, and Hunter Ingalls. The group published five issues of a magazine, Eventorium Muse (1964–1967), which was co-edited by O’Brien and Ingalls for the first four issues. O’Brien edited the fifth and final issue. I recently purchased a collection of books and other items from the estate of the owner of a former New York City bookstore named Cinemabilia at 10 West 13th St , run by Ernest D. Burns. It was located in Greenwich Village in the 1970's and 1980's and, I believe, closed down in the late 1980's. Many of the books I will be listing are "new old stock" in that they were never sold. When his store closed down, he boxed everything up and they have spent the last thirty years boxed and/or bagged. As many were bagged, they will retain the brand new crispness of the jacket and pages, with many of the books clearly having never been opened until I did so to inspect and photograph them for purposes of identification. Those that were not bagged may have dusty edges or toning to the edges of the jackets and pages. If that is the case, I will describe them as such. Most of the new books that I have were printed in the 1970's and 1980's and I will also be listing many used books as this was also a used bookstore. I also have a bunch of signed books. While Adolph Zukor's autograph has gone down in value, that of Veronica Lake and Truman Capote has increased. Since my "store" is limited to 1,000 free listings, the books will be listed also on my wife's account and the best way to find my listings will be to search the name that is printed above in bold letters and include "description" in the search. I am only beginning to list them in June and it will likely take me several months to get them all up. I purchased the second half of his book collection in September, so I will be doing this for a year. For many of these unsold books, the worst issue will be that there was a price label on the book somewhere, sometimes on the front paste down. While the labels come right off, they will have left discoloring behind. Again, if that is the case, I will mention it. I utilize a third party EBAY supplied shipper for international sales. This is part of the Global Shipping Program. Please note the actual shipping cost before purchasing. That is not my shipping fee and I neither receive it nor know what the amount is. I have no control over import fees that may be charged. Please do not commit to "buy it now" until you have seen the shipping amount that you will be charged. Thank you. For International Buyers: Media Mail shipments only. Please note that, although you are likely paying very high shipping costs to have this item sent to you, I am not charging those costs. In the case of books, I utilize "media mail" to get the box to the third party shipper. "Media mail" is a very SLOW speed mailing process reserved for books and records that are potentially very heavy. If you can not wait for my shipment to reach the third party shipper at a very slow pace, please contact me before purchasing and I can add a faster (and more expensive) alternative to the listing to get the item to the third party shipper. hwoak MEDIA MAIL: The USPS allows books, records and other media to be mailed at a cheaper price than typical mail. It tends to be a much slower mailing process than standard mail. In addition, any employee of the USPS can open the package at ANY time for ANY reason to verify that what is inside is what should be inside. In most cases, the item is properly repackaged but, in rare cases, it is not and an item can arrive damaged. As my feedback suggests, I package very carefully. If you receive a damaged item that has the appearance of having been poorly packaged, please contact me prior to leaving feedback so that it can be addressed.
