The Soviets and Chinese, long allies against a common foe, now size each other up as adversaries. The Americans look on as Soviets and Chinese direct their hatred against each other. With this background of current international politics, The East is Red postulates a clash of arms on the Manchurian border, after years of bitterness and increases tension. Even now, armed forces totalling three and a half million men face each other across that very border. The first Game-Turn is a summer's day in 1975 or 1976. The Soviet Army, a modern, mechanized force, must swiftly defeat the Chinese army, ponderous, but becoming overwhemingly strong with each passing week. In addition to the conventional land forces, tactical nuclear weapons and air strikes play an important role. Victory in the campaign is dependent upon occupation of industrial centers, which provide China's war making capability. Major cities with their ability to mobilize the Chinese militia, also become territorial objectives. Four different scenarios are provided; each lasts ten Game - Turns.
