I use a superb finish which I apply several coats of to get a very thick finish. I'll put my finish up against any. All the hardware was cleaned then treated with rust inhibitor and oiled. All tread holes in the body and frog are cleaned then oiled. The Rosewood Tote & knob are beautiful. Both were cleaned then smoothed out then waxed several times to get a very smooth natural finish. The sole was lapped "correctly". All lapping is done by hand on a large granite slab. Frog face & seats lapped. Like to point one thing out about the face and seat of a frog. It should absolutely not be lapped to a very smooth face. Stanley put a rough machined surface on the frog for a important reason. A rough surface on the frog face help to hold the cutter in place without it slipping. You should not have to clamp your lever cap down to were it takes a pry bar to release it. Cap iron was cleaned and lapped. The Cutter was lapped and sharpened. Its extremely sharp and cuts superb shavings leaving a very smooth finish on the wood surface. The Lever cap was cleaned then lapped at its contact point.This is a superb plane. It will make a excellent addition to a work shop or collection. Just a little bit of reality versus flat out baloney. A corrugated sole plane is every bit as good a smoothing plane as a smooth sole. The corrugated sole was made to reduce the friction on the sole which its does. The larger the plane the more evident this becomes.
