Description: This receiver is a Target HF3 unit that appears to have been introduced in 1997 with the budget buyer in mind. While this is a NASA / Target HF3, the same unit was also manufactured under different badges like the Lowe SRX-100 and the AKD HF3. The badges carried only slight differences and were all manufactured by the same AKD company. The HF3 is not a very common shortwave receiver and few examples of this show up in the North American market. This receiver comes with a 12VDC power adapter and a copy of the manual. As you can see in the pictures, the HF3 is in good overall cosmetic condition. It also operates perfectly as designed with no problems or shortcomings. The user will need to connect an antenna into the RCA input. This can be a piece of plain or insulated wire that is 12 feet or more in length. Better reception can be achieved with using a longer outside antenna, but not having the ability to mount such an antenna, the shorter wire antenna can be strung over curtain rods in your listening room. If you are looking for a receiver that has lots of bells and whistles, then you would be best served to look elsewhere. This HF3 is a very simple, but easy to use, receiver covering the spectrum from 30 KHz thru 30 MHz and operates in the AM, LSB, and USB modes. The simplicity of operation is ideal for the person wanting to get their feet wet with the hobby of shortwave listening. The manual that accompanies the radio is definitely written with the beginning listener in mind and labors to be very specific for someone who is new to world band radio and would have basic questions such as how to erect an antenna and connect it to the receiver, the best time to listen to shortwave, and what is sideband listening and how does it work. If you wish to have a comparable copy of the user manual to view prior to purchase, you may copy and past the following link into your internet browser: https://www.nasamarine.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/12/NASA-HF3.pdf Thus, this is a great receiver for someone who may feel intimidated with some of the advanced and expensive listening receivers that may assume you already know this information. Since this unit comes with it's AC adapter, but operates off of 12 volts DC, it is a great unit to use for listening during emergencies as it can operate off of a car battery (with the appropriate connector that is not supplied but easily available). The other reason that this is a great emergency radio is that it covers the full AM and shortwave spectrum, can tune into the amateur radio bands and decode both upper and lower sideband, and also covers the CB radio frequencies. The strengths of this HF3 are its compact size and its simplicity. As you can see, there is no direct entry keypad. However, the designers have figured this out and the tuning dial will allow for fine to fast tuning depending upon the speed that the knob is turned or spun. Thus, despite not having a keypad, you can reach those remote frequencies very quickly. The compactness means that it does not take up a lot of desktop space and many owners have mounted these HF3's inside their automobile where it can fit within the dash of most vehicles, operate off of the car's 12 volt DC battery, and is easy to tune. Let us summarize some of the features of this Target HF3 receiver: Receives from 30 KHz to 30 MHz (30,000 KHz) Listening modes of AM, CW, LSB, USB Simple front panel Flywheel weighted main tuning knob Memory for your favorite station Nice internal speaker Headphone jack Switch to enable amplified antennas Digital readout Variable speed tuning 1, 10, 100, 1000 KHz Clarifier for sideband and CW (fine tune) Operates off of 12 volts DC (or with supplied AC adaptor) We are happy to answer any questions you may have regarding this receiver. Sensitivity is quite good and it should provide the beginning listener hours of great worldband reception. Those buyers living outside the USA are welcome to purchase with shipping being based on a calculation of the weight of the unit. If you do not need the 120 volt AC adaptor, the cost will be slightly less than the Ebay calculator. We are happy to ship to your location having shipped to 112 countries during the past 25 years on Ebay. Thank you for taking time out of your busy day to look at our Ebay items!
