Description: USS Florida BB-30 USN Battleship first day cover with a postmark on April 10, 2023 from Freedom, ME. Photo of actual ship printed in blue on cachet #2933 by Alvin Eckert #9964 USCS. Cover franked with a 63 cent Flag stamp # 5788 (FDOI) and a 13 cent Florida State flag stamp # 1659. This 521 foot 20K ton Florida Class dreadnought battleship was built at Brooklyn, NY. She was launched on 12 May 1910 and commissioned on Sept 15 1911. She had ten 12 inch guns on the center-line. The ship was heavily armored and considered one of America's early dreadnoughts. The proud new vessel served in the British First World War Atlantic Fleet, but saw no action. She made post-war voyages, but trained sailors along the US Atlantic coast for the most part. She was decommissioned in 1931 and sold to be recycled into scrap metal in 1931. Seller has over 40 different battleship covers. Check out my other items!
