Description: COPPER COLORED SILK TAFFETA DAY DRESS, 1850’s Mid-19th C.1850 – 1860s copper colored silk taffeta, 2 piece in construction, bodice overjacket, skirt and with matching pelerine. Details include: Bodice overjacket with front center closure, long full sleeves, center front buttons with tabs and with hook and eye closure, tassels on sleeves as well as a lace cuff and lace eyelet trim in collar. Tassels on hem of overjacket and on back tails. Brown polished cotton lining. Skirt with button closure center back, cartridge pleating, and inner pocket on right side. Pleats in waist to add fullness to skirt. Pelerine has delicate matching colored lace and braided trim. APPROXIMATE MEAUREMENTS JACKET Bust 32 inches, Waist 28 inches, Sleeve 19 inches, Across Back 14-1/2 inches Shoulder to Front hem 46 inches, including fringes 2-1/2” Shoulder to Back hem 32 inches, including 2-1/2 inch fringe. SKIRT Waist 27 inches, Front Length 41 inches, Back Length 45 inches. PELERINE 43 inches long end to end and center width 14 inches. CONDITION All pieces with wear consistent with age and use, sold as found. Jacket has rips on back shoulders below neckline and top of shoulder. Underarm discoloration. Water stains on sleeves and scattered about. Front closure needs stabilizing. Pelerine in very good condition. Skirt missing back button and is in good condition with no splitting of material.
