Vintage Acoustic Research AR-3 speakers - Serial # C53909 & C53920

Description: I have a very nice pair of AR-3 speakers for sale. They sound really good. I verified all speakers work but I have not used them much other then testing after I worked on them. This is the only pair I've owned so I only had a nice pair of 2ax's to compare them to. I thought the 2ax's sounded great and the 3's sounds just as good but with a lot more bass. I have cleaned the controls (replaced 2 with originals) and they work fairly well but are not perfect. If you use these controls a lot you may want to install L-pads instead. I was thinking of just bypassing the controls next time I opened them up. The speaker grills and frames I believe are original and in great shape. I have left them off for now because they were difficult to remove so I decided to minimize the chance of damage with repeated installs/removals. Since I have not tried to reinstall them yet I'm not sure how easy that will be, I think maybe the edges may need to be glued around the frame edges before they are reinstalled. I have treated the woofer surrounds with a sealer sold by Vintage AR. The wood cabinets are good with one exception. There is a large (2-3") chip missing from the front edge of one of that cabinets (see picture). If you were to restore the cabinets this would be fairly simple to fix. The top of the same cabinet shows some stains. Otherwise the sides of both cabinets are in good condition. Local pickup only for now. I will consider shipping but it would probably be in two boxes (not sure I have good boxes for shipping these).
