Vintage Excellent 1950 LEE Whippet Beaver Fifteen Brown Fedora 7-1/8 Stetson

Description: Here is a Beautiful LEE 1950s Beaver Fifteen (Black Label) DOBBS - Brown - Whippet Clone fedora with that wide brim and wide bound brim edge. The size is a Perfect 7-1/8. See pictures. With that Wide Bound Brim Edge, brim 2.6 inches and the Playboy style Grosgrain Ribbon at 1.1 inches. It’s just a beautiful sharp looking Fedora! If your looking at this, this was shaped years ago to look like the Indiana Jones “Raiders of the Lost Ark” type fedora. This was then stored away after the last movie. Read below, NO HAT BOX CURRENTLY IN THIS SALE! Look at the underside of the hat you can see there is no wear around the leather sweatband, look at where the hat attaches to the Beaver. That’s called the “Reed”. It has no wear to it, well nothing seen. Looks perfect! As my grandson did his final inspection, as you know we HIDE NOTHING!, he noticed that there was what looked like a weak spot on the sewn leather joint. So just to be 100% certain that that will never split Dad used a strip from an older Stetson leather sweatband and that Weldwood leather glue and reenforced that part. That is now the strongest part of the leather sweatband. See picture where it is lifted up by fingers. It’s perfect and will last more than a lifetime! We added picture 16 and we don’t think these are moth bites but a super tiny rub? It’s so tiny though that it’s hard to tell. Because of that LEE Liner Logo and that very thin plastic liner cover it’s easily dated to the very early 1950s. Both dad and a collector who has a hat relationship with dad both agreed to the dating of this great hat. NOTE: that hat box it was found in was in a 1950s LEE hat box. Another collector saw the hat box and he and Dad are negotiating for it. It will be sold by the time this is listed. SO NO HAT BOX! You are welcome to write to us if you’d like an older vintage hat box though. Dad does have a couple empty great ones. There’s that late 1950-1960s 6 sided boxes by Knox and there is a Dobbs also. You must write to us though. This is NOT sewn onto the hat but could be by any decent tailor or the end can be trimmed off and used just as an adornment. It’s pretty easily done. This will add another $12, rather than the $20 that they sell for individually. You must write to add this to the great fedora hat. This one is only $12 but Dad still has a few more that are listed. This was LEE’s higher end styled fedora to compete with the Stetson Whippet fedora. This has nearly all the same dimensions! Slightly wider brim - 2.6 inches and a narrower Playboy Style Narrower Grosgrain Ribbon. The color is brown and the picture of the whole underside are the best representation of the actual color. We believe Stetson would have called this Chocolate Brown. We took out dad’s collection of 1950s Stetson Beaver hats: 3X, 7X Clear Beaver, Ten, Fifteen, Twenty and TwentyFive. This best matched up with the Beaver Fifteen. It’s more of a light-medium weight material beaver and very soft and pliable! The current shape was steamed into the hat. But as always we actually measure each hat 3 times to verify its true size. This stated size”7”. But this measures to a an PERFECT 7-1/8 at 22-3/8 inches. These old vintage hat were manufactured at a time when there was NO hat size standardization. That was started in the 1970s and agreed upon to use the Tilley Hat Sizing Chart. Mostly still in use today.
