Vintage Jemez Native American Pottery By Carolyn Sando - Large Wedding Vase

Description: This large vintage wedding vase is a beautiful example of Jemez Native American pottery, handcrafted by artist Carolyn Sando. The intricate design and attention to detail make this piece a true collector's item. Carolyn Sando is an award-winning Potter from the Jemez Pueblo which is located in the Jemez mountains about 40 miles north of Albuquerque, New Mexico. Her pots are made with the coil method, curling rolls of clay, which she digs from the Pueblo pottery source, into the shape of a vase, and this case, a wedding vase. The pot is then rubbed with a smooth stone, dried, and the design is painted using natural clay slips. The pots are fired under a pile of Piñon which tempers the clay and ad hears the finish to the pot. The wedding vase, according to Carolyn, is a symbol of family. In the wedding ceremony, each side of the family, pours water into the different spouts and in the manner, the families are joined. be aware that these pots are artistic endeavors and are not intended to hold water. The butterfly is symbolic of a blessing to the family. The unique culture and history of Native American pottery make this vase a valuable addition to any collection. It is perfect for display, or as a decorative piece in any home. This item is a must-have for collectors of Native American art and pottery.
