Description: ***********FOR PARTS/REPAIR - The AS 1686 manual wind movement runs for several minutes to several hours at at time before stopping. Although the crown winds smoothly it is difficult to pull out to set the time. After approximately every 7 winds of the crown there is a jolt in the movement. At a minimum a compete overhaul is required.*********** This seldom seen vintage 1960's Sportsways Mariner has under the damaged crystal a glossy black gilt "SWISS MADE" signed dial that is in lovely but not perfect condition as it shows wear. The lume, which no longer glows after being exposed to bright light, has aged deeply. As clearly seen in the pictures some lume is missing from the minute hand and all the metal on the hands show oxidation. The bezel, which shows wear and paint loss, does not rotate, likely due to gunk buildup underneath. The all stainless steel case shows honest wear and signs of oxidation with a personal engraving on the bottom of the top left lug (picture 24). The outer edge of the case back is stamped "WATERPRESSURE TESTED SWISS MADE ALL STAINLESS STEEL SHOCKPROTECTED" with "300 FEET" and "INCABLOC" stamped along the inner edge. The inside of the case back is stamped "SPORTSWAYS INC." followed by "SWISS." The crystal needs to be replaced. The 17 jewels unadjusted Swiss "SPORTSWAYS INC." stamped AS 1686 manual wind movement runs for several minutes to several hours at a time, keeping relatively good time. Although the non-screwdown crown winds smoothly it is difficult to pull out to set the time. After approximately every 7 winds of the crown there is a jolt in the movement. At a minimum a complete overhaul is required. This watch measures approximately 36 mm excluding the crown, approximately 38 mm including the crown and approximately 19 mm between the lugs. Case thickness, measured from the bottom of the case back to the top of the bezel, is approximately 8 mm. Including the crystal thickness measures approximately 9.5 mm. The lug to lug distance measures approximately 46 mm. At a minimum a complete overhaul is required. As such there are no warranties, express or implied, attached with the sale of this watch. Vintage means old and while my personal belief is that old-school means better quality and workmanship, things can and do go wrong from time to time. For this watch that time is now. Any servicing costs going forward are your responsibility. Please thoroughly read this entire listing and kindly ask any and all questions you may have prior to buying as this sale is final and no refunds of any kind will be given. And please study the 24 high magnification pictures carefully as they are part of the description and serve as an accurate representation of the condition of this watch. Expedited and insured shipping along with signature confirmation will be provided.
