Gem size albums were often used by children for friends or school mates, etc., sort of a 1850 version of the modern school yearbook. Also used by families, as indicated by this one. Loaded with men, women, and a variety of cute young children! This is a nice standard size gem album, containing 12 pages, with room for 4 standard gem size tintype photos per page......for a total capacity of 48 gems. THIS ONE HAS ONLY 4 EMPTY PHOTO OPENINGS, SO IS STILL CONSIDERED FULL. I HAVE NEVER SEEN ONE SO FULL!! Even more special, many of the pictures, almost 20, are identified by name!!! THIS IS RARELY SEEN IN ANY ALBUM, AND I HAVE NEVER SEEN A GEM ALBUM WITH IDENTIFICATIONS. It is a great piece for your collection of albums/photos !!!The album has a NICE RED LEATHER EMBOSSED PATTERN ON THE FRONT & BACK COVERS, gold trimmed pages and trim.
