WW2 Homefront Propaganda 26 Vintage 1940s Military War Movie Films On 3 DVDs

Description: Please read & note: This is a Rights holding DVD set created & produced by me and is not factory made or sealed. I strive to produce the best DVD's possible from the sometimes VERY old Public Domain material. Films that are public domain are unpreserved and not professionally re-mastered. I re-master all of my films myself to the best possible quality achievable. My DVDs are not the quality of todays Modern DVDs or Bluray discs. If you are looking for this kind of quality then these discs are not for you. All pictures are actual screen captures from the DVDs. Please note this when purchasing, but also know that all of the films are very watchable. To keep my prices as low as possible all my DVDs are delivered in plain paper DVD sleeves and the DVDs title will be labeled on the back of the DVD envelope. This way you can write the contents of the DVD on the DVD yourself if you want to. (See picture). All of my DVD's come with a menu for easy film selection. Total runtime of this 3 DVD set is 4 hours and 51 minutes. The films included in this set are: Mr. and Mrs. America (1945) B&W Runtime 13 Minutes Plea to buy war bonds. Notable principally for an early (first?) on-screen appearance by Eddie Albert (later star of Our Mr. Sun and Green Acres) as a greasy-faced GI. President Roosevelt also has a brief speaking role, probably one of his last. Very brief shots of dead American soldiers (including a burial at sea) and of New York harbor, wheat being harvested, and workers leaving a factory. Release Date: 1945 Entered the Public Domain: 1973 It Can't Last (1944) B&W Runtime 19 Minutes This film was written by the distinguished Librarian of Congress and Pulitzer Prize-winning poet, Archibald MacLeish. It shows the efforts of the troops in contrast to a civilian's idea that the war can't last much longer. Release Date: 1944 Entered the Public Domain: 1972 Ring of Steel (1942) B&W Runtime 8 Minutes This is a fine documentary done in the early days of WWII. Spencer Tracy, who was a veteran of WWI, narrated the film in his usual effective manner. The short was done in February, 1942. Release Date: 1942 Entered the Public Domain: 1970 Three Cities (1943) B&W Runtime 10 Minutes Newsreel like segments telling how The Common Man Helps Each Other during Wartime. Release Date: 1943 Entered the Public Domain: 1971 A Letter From Bataan (1944) B&W Runtime 14 Minutes Effective film for W.W.II civilians. Historically shows the suffering of our soldiers during World War II, and the sacrifices the civilians at home had to make. A timely reminder a well presented and honest film. A tribute to the soldiers serving overseas during world war two. Telling patriots in their safe homes to change their bad habits. Release Date: 1944 Entered the Public Domain: 1972 Victory Is Our Business (1942) B&W Runtime 10 Minutes Patriotic motivational film for World War II industrial workers. Release Date: 1942 Entered the Public Domain: 1970 All Out for Victory (1943) B&W Runtime 20 Minutes Firestone produced this World War II film, in which it shows us all the different kinds of war materials being produced in its plant. It's a fascinating historical document, because it shows the diversity of workers hired for war production. Blind workers unravel the ends of parachute straps, a one-armed man operates a one-handed hole-punching machine, deaf workers work in the noisiest part of the factory, elderly men come out of retirement to offer their well-honed skills, and, of course, women are everywhere. It's also interesting to see the wide variety of war materials Firestone produced and how they produced them. And it's a stirring piece of propaganda, as we are constantly reminded that relatives of these workers who are in the armed services depend in a life-or-death way on the quality of these materials. For instance, one woman's son was saved by a lifebelt that she herself had inspected (it had her inspection stamp on it). This is shown to make the workers extra careful about the quality of their work. One of the better industrial incentive films that was made. Release Date: 1943 Entered the Public Domain: 1971 Safeguarding Military Information (1941) B&W Runtime 10 Minutes Safeguarding Military Information is a very good articulation of the "Loose Ships Sink Ships" message that the United States Military sought to promote during World War II in an effort to prevent enemy saboteurs from gleaning sensitive information from civilians and military personnel. The imagery used towards the end of the film is quite effective. Release Date: 1941 Entered the Public Domain: 1969 Supervising Women Workers (1944) B&W Runtime 10 Minutes Management addresses the special problems of women workers with concern and a heavy dose of sexism. Release Date: 1944 Entered the Public Domain: 1972 When Work Is Done (1943) B&W Runtime 9 Minutes This film gives the viewer of today a chance to see how 1943 American civilians sacrificed and dealt with the problems on the home front during World War II. Informative & very interesting. Release Date: 1943 Entered the Public Domain: 1971 Wartime Nutrition (1943) B&W Runtime 10 Minutes Wartime work of public welfare agencies in the field of nutrition. Release Date: 1943 Entered the Public Domain: 1971 Highballing to Victory (1944) B&W Runtime 10 Minutes Entertaining film about the importance of rubber in wartime. More specifically of course, the use of it for tires that will be used by the US forces transport vehicles. I found this film interesting in it's personification of the tire as an active participant in the war, like we were supposed to feel for the tires getting blown apart in wartime. Nice production shots too. Release Date: 1944 Entered the Public Domain: 1972 The Town (1945) B&W Runtime 10 Minutes Shows life during wartime in an American town (Madison, Indiana). Directed by Josef von Sternberg. Release Date: 1945 Entered the Public Domain: 1973 The Arm Behind the Army (1942) B&W Runtime 10 Minutes How winning World War II depends on successful labor-management collaboration. Release Date: 1942 Entered the Public Domain: 1970 Conquer by the Clock (1943) B&W Runtime 10 Minutes Encourages American workers to make the best possible use of their time in a war where industrial production and combat are synchronized on an international level. Release Date: 1943 Entered the Public Domain: 1971 Manpower (1943) B&W Runtime 8 Minutes The battle for industrial production in World War II. Release Date: 1943 Entered the Public Domain: 1971 Freedom Comes High (1944) B&W Runtime 12 Minutes In this excellently acted and melodramatic piece coming from the US Navy of all places. a married couple is separated when the husband goes off to war. As you can tell by the title, consequences ensue. I imagine this film was done by the Navy to warn women that Johnny might not be marching home. This film has a high cinematic feel to it, and all the acting is superb. Release Date: 1944 Entered the Public Domain: 1972 Suggestion Box (1945) B&W Runtime 8 Minutes Describes how war plant workers in 1944 were encouraged to submit suggestions and how some of these suggestions, when put into practice, resulted in saving of time, labor and materials. Release Date: 1945 Entered the Public Domain: 1973 Every Minute Counts (1944) B&W Runtime 10 Minutes Balancing work and family in a time of heightened mobilization. Release Date: 1944 Entered the Public Domain: 1972 As The Twig Is Bent... (1943) B&W Runtime 10 Minutes On the problem of youth crime during World War II and the fear that America would lose a generation of children to delinquency. Release Date: 1943 Entered the Public Domain: 1971 These Are the People (1944) B&W Runtime 16 Minutes Workers of a Wisconsin town mobilize for World War II production. Release Date: 1944 Entered the Public Domain: 1972 Men and Jobs (1944) COLOR Runtime 8 Minutes How the U.S. government tried to match every person to a job during World War II. Release Date: 1944 Entered the Public Domain: 1972 Close Harmony (1942) B&W Runtime 11 Minutes Discussion on the need for unity between labor and management as the U.S. mobilizes for World War II. Release Date: 1942 Entered the Public Domain: 1970 Winning Against Odds (1940) B&W Runtime 10 Minutes Caterpillar Tractor Co. presents this WWII-era story of their program to hire handicapped workers. There's an overview of how the program works, followed by brief bios of about 20 men. They are respectfully presented as outstanding workers with excellent attitudes, who ask no special favors, just the chance to contribute. No camp/humor value here, just a genuinely inspiring little film. Release Date: 1940 Entered the Public Domain: 1968 Food for Fighters (1943) B&W Runtime 10 Minutes A 1943 documentary about feeding nutritious food to the armed forces. Dehydrated & process food was developed during that time. A very informative production of its time. Release Date: 1943 Entered the Public Domain: 1971 These People (1944) B&W Runtime 15 Minutes Frigidaire plant converts to military production during World War II. Release Date: 1944 Entered the Public Domain: 1972 I claim ownership and rights to this media. The films on this DVD have been researched and are copyright free or the copyrights have expired due to non renewal.
