Description: Original WW2 German map of OCCUPIED POLAND entitled "ZARKI - JEDRZEJOW - JLKENAU - MIECHOW" It's headed "Nur für den Dienstgebrauch" (equivalent to a "RESTRICTED" British military map). Printed in September 1943 and then run through the presses again the following month to add a new overprinted layer changing several place names to German spellings (mit vorläufigen Ortsnamenänderungen). The map was clearly captured by the Allies, and was eventually donated to Edinburgh University. From a large collection recently sold off by Edinburgh University - hence their own ink stamping to margin. (From time to time, the government distributes excess stocks of its surplus maps to various national institutions.)
