The US Army riggers pouch fits onto the pistol belt. They were designed to hold grenades, ammunition or other essential tools needed by airborne troops jumping into battle. This pouch can be seen in the middle of the picture below, flanked by the tie up and larger variant. American WWII Paratroopers often wore 2-3 of these pouches around their waist. Riggers pouches were produced at a unit level, naturally leading to some variation. The life-the-dot type fastening was more commonly found during the North Africa and Italian campaigns, though they continued to be used during D-Day and Operation Market Garden.
